Outreach Weekend Phnom Penh

One of regular, but less well known activities organized by this very active BEC. is a monthly program known as "outreach".
This involves Brothers and Sisters from surrounding provinces who are unable to attend many Ecclesial activities staying at the BEC over a week-end for a program of study, including a seminar at the Dorm, and staying for the Memorial Meeting and a fellowship meal on Sunday.

Also joining them and staying for the weekend are students from (LCDI).
LCDI stands for Leadership and Character Development Institute and is an education project to assist poor students and others who have dropped out of the education system, by providing them skills which help them gain employment.
Christadelphians have been assisting over the past 10 years with practical assistance as well as weekly English lessons and have resulted in a number of baptisms of teachers and students.

Our recent outreach was attended by 4 Brothers and Sisters from the provinces, 15 LCDI  students, 2 family members of a Sister who are seeking baptism, as well as a number of dormers, BEC staff and fieldworkers.
The theme was "The Books of the Bible" and individual talks included:
·        Introduction to the Bible
·         the Law & History,
·        Poetry & wisdom
·        Prophecy,
·        the Gospels, and letters

Speakers: Bro Saory, Sis Theavy, Bro Warren, Sis Jeannie and Bro Vitou
These were designed to provide a background and outline of each of the 66 books and was particularly helpful to the students (mainly from Buddhist homes).
The organization of the Week-end was first class and those who attended left well fed naturally and spiritually, and were looking forward to the next opportunity (God Willing) to enjoy these times of friendship and fellowship.
It is probably difficult for those of us who enjoy the opportunity of regular meetings with our Brethren to fully appreciate the benefits of these weekends but the "buzz" of conversation after each talk and the wide smiles spoke volumes.
As always we ask for your prayers that our Heavenly Father will continue to bless the work in Cambodia.

On a personal note our 6 month stay is coming to an end and we will always treasure the opportunity we have had to make some practical contribution in this very busy BEC. It has been a very up-lifting experience to witness the enthusiasm of the Cambodian students and see them develop in their appreciation of God's Word and we certainly feel very blessed.
We would also like to thank Brother Vitou and his staff for all their support and the local Brothers and Sisters, and fellow field-workers for the sweet times of fellowship we have shared.
John and Janet

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
