A small sample of the Bible Students at BEC1 Phnom Peng

This blog to show some of variety and enthusiasm evident by the student coming to Phnom Peng
All of the teacher comment of the level of work these student have either with family commitments , studies, work to support family or other languages.

As it is the middle of the rainy season these student often leave home wading up to their knees in water that has deluged down in the very typical 1-2 hour monsoon rain to get to the BEC on time, and if they arrive dry they often leave in the rain to get home in time.


Chheng Ly
Profile- Student at University (English Literature)
Lessons - Stage 3  - rate 1-2 lessons per day - studies the Bible  until in his words "his head hurts"
Chheng Ly studies 2 hours per day Tues to Friday in addition to Uni and Chinese language, here with Denise in the main office area of the BEC 1 Phnom Penh

Student - Phanara
Profile - Student at University - English Literature
(Considering moving universities to study Electrical Engineering at Sihanoukville - wants to continue at BEC 2)
Lesson - 3 Sessions per day 8am-9am Lessons, 9am-10am First Principles, 2pm-3.30pm more lessons!! here with Chloe in the afternoon session 
Phanara is credited with  finding the word "lectionary" in the Oxford English Khmer dictionary - no meaning given!!

Mr Lee - Studies Genesis
Profile - Currently completing a Double degree in Electrical Engineering and English literature (plus studies Chinese)
Lessons - Genesis
Mr Lee has asked to volunteer at BEC to improve confidence and will take on a daily class teaching basic English to teenagers - commencing next week all being well

Oudom - Son of Srey To (BEC cook)
Currently studying and runs an online web based business
Currently studying Genesis   1 lesson per day 

Savvy Ann
Profile - Currently a Tuk Tuk driver and working 12 hours per day to sustain income for wife and 3 children 
Studies first Principles for 2 hours on a Saturday 
A prolific note taker and does not rest until ideas are clear in his mind - has satisfactory English and loves his Bible reading 


Sunday School - 2 hours on a Sunday Morning over 50 students attend BEC 1 - this lesson Moses leaves Egypt 

Samnang (Mr Lucky) and Dina
Mr Lucky attends 3 evening a week from 5-7pm
Profile - Studies at University 
Current Bible studies are an in depth look at Genesis

  
Dina - attends 4 nights a week for 5-7 pm
Profile - Currently studying mathematics at University

Dalux, Sisters Kunthy, Cheanda and Sreypich

The "Dormers" Over 30 young People and Brethren and Sisters
Their supervisor Bro Him with Sister Wife Kuntheavy  and sons  Joseph and Jacob (photo to follow)
These student mostly attend university and also attend both compulsory and elective lessons. Currently the Seminars they have attended have included subjects like Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and The Islamic State

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
