TOOTH SAFARI 2012

Cambodia BEC is proud to announce Tooth Safari! Our inaugural tooth week has been a dental extravaganza beyond compare. Now drawing towards its completion , Tooth Safari has seen some of the BEC's most familiar (if now a little contorted) faces embark on some dramatic dental excursions.  The festivities all began last Thursday afternoon, with an opening act from a trio comprising Saruon, Sorphea, and Loy, heading out into the wilds of Phnom Penh to hunt down some exotic dental encounters. Their original quarry, a Korean mission offering free dental services, eluded them by a stealthy change of premises. Disappointed but not deterred, they moved on to other targets, eventually engaging with a dental clinic in the concrete jungle near Orussey Market. The crowds of circling prey severely delayed their opportunity to snatch an unsuspecting dentist, and Sorphea missed out entirely, but for Loy and Saruon, their moment finally arrived to capture their long-awaited game. The fig...

Phnom Penh Ecclesia Social Activity

Trip to Sihanouk beach! 9th March, Friday evening, it was a busy and excited evening for brethren and dormers which was one night before leaving to Sihanoukville where the beach is. Everyone was sleeping at the dorm because the bus will leave at 4am early in the morning. That night everyone just can’t went to sleep because they were so happy in imagination to go the beach because mostly of them never been there before so they spent time talking to each and some was cooking until 3am that night. 4am early Saturday morning, everyone ready for a bus to go but Sister Kimsrean’s children was late because they had to go to see the doctor first before they leave to Sihanoukville. Anyway, the bus left late at 4:30 am. When everyone was on the bus they were sleepy but we showed a Korean movie so still some sleep and some watching movie. We arrived at Ocheuteal beach around 9am and then we started to go to see the guest house where we will stay for a night there. At 11am everyone got into their...

CHAN Thy Muoy's Baptism

Muoy is one of the BEC’s neighbors, who got to know Saruon while Saruon’s job was looking after Michael and Miriam’s kids. Muoy got to know Saruon because Muoy likes foreign kids. One day Saruon invited Muoy to visit the BEC and told her about the classes and activities that happen there. She was interested in the idea of studying the Bible with foreigners because she wanted to improve her English speaking and listening in order to let her communicate with her fiancé more easily, and also because she wanted to pass the interview to get a visa to live with him in US. Bong Muoy married her fiancé, an American man named Brian, in July 2010. After her wedding, she had an interview at the US embassy, but was not granted a visa to live in the US. So her husband had to go back to USA to work, and had to leave Muoy in Cambodia alone, waiting for next opportunity for an interview to come up. It was so sad for her. She began studying at the BEC shortly afterwards. In the past one and a half yea...

Vitou's Birthday

Birthday Boy Last Monday was Vitou's Birthday. Being a Monday meant that it was everyone's day off except Vitou's! Even Dany had the day off to spent time with Vitou... so we told Vitou to take the day off as well. There is no point working on your birthday when you are the only one in the office! In the evening a few of us went round the corner to Vitou and Dany's new house to celebrate Vitou's birthday with a few of the dormers. The new place where they live now is lovely, light and breezy, although there are a fair few stairs to climb and a few narrow balconies to manoeuver oneself along, but once there it is a lovely place with open space and a fairly large kitchen, two bedrooms, and three bathrooms! The offending cake Everyone had a great night, we enjoyed eating a lovely meal prepared by Dany, which consisted of Khmer rice noodles and a curry sauce of some kind with salad vegies. After some talking and yes, lots of noise and chatte...

Outreach rolls around again

Last weekend we had outreach once again. I'm not sure where the weeks go but it always seems to be outreach here! So we prepare all the rooms and wait and see who turns up. It can be tricky choosing a topic for the weekend as such a variety of people come: some who come all the time, and others that have only just begun and have no real knowledge of the Bible. This past weekend's topic was 'Following Jesus'. We taught about what it means to be a christian - a disciple of Christ: believing the gospel, conquering sin, living a new life, and becoming a member of God's family. We had eight or ten people come in from around the countryside as well as a few locals who joined in for the lessons. David did the first talk which gave an introduction to the weekend. We skyped brother Adrian from Thailand, and he and Jin and Auy listened in as best they could over the skype connection. They could see the slide show so if they couldn't catch the audio clearly then they co...
