Cleaning Up Sihanouk Ville

First God's creation Top of Form In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”  Adam & Eve But it shall come to pass, if you do...

Bethezer Dorm Parents' Weekend

“There was not a dry eye in the house” is a saying we all know well and this was true at the Dorm two Sundays ago (28 October) when we enjoyed the first “Bethézer Dorm Parents’ Weekend.” Kea and Tut with their fathers Dy cooking food for all Many of the parents of the dormers travelled to Phnom Penh for the weekend to visit where their children live, some of them for the first time.  Brother Him and Sister Theavy coordinated a wonderful weekend together, finished by an evening none of us will forget. At 2.00pm sharp on Sunday, a four-hour presentation by the dormers began, MC’d by the capable Brother Veasna (“Medium Veasna”) and Sister Vichem.  We were entertained with stories, jokes and a song by Vichem.  This was followed by two dances by Rathana, Sister Kim Srien’s granddaughter.  Brother Him also did a presentation for the parents outlining what their children did while living at the Dorm. A New Bible School Experience

Visiting Malaysia - Malaysia is located in the heart of Southeast Asia. Consisting of 127,000 sq. miles (330,200 sq. km), Malaysia is divided into two main regions: Peninsular Malaysia, which lies just south of Thailand, and East Malaysia, which can be found north of Indonesia on the island of Borneo. These two regions are divided into thirteen states and federal territories. Although East Malaysia occupies the larger portion of Malaysia's total area, it is primarily comprised of undeveloped land and jungles. Malaysia is a land of fascinating sights and attractions. Rich in color and contrasts, her multi-faceted charm provides intriguing images that leave visitors to the country in awe. The natural warmth of Malaysians is legendary; wherever one goes, the friendliness and hospitality of the people would prove to be a very special experience. Malaysia is paradise. Its sun-drenched beaches, enchanting islands, diverse flora and fauna, forest retreats and magnificent mountains are...

Back in the Penh

Family wagon in PP We (K, Ezekiel and myself) arrived back in the Penh just over a fortnight ago, ready for a 4-month stay.   Luke and Jess, as well as a contingent of Khmer left for the Malaysian Bible School just 12 hours after we arrived so we spent the first week reacquainting ourselves with the BEC and assessing the changes in the dorms and the city itself.   We were excited to have Esther and Deb visit for a few days and for a while it was just like old times, visiting favourite haunts, chatting with Khmer friends and swinging on hammocks overlooking the Mekong while chowing down frogs and fish. Unfortunately I succumbed to some form of throat infection half a week after we arrived, and spent a few days downing garlic and Echinacea tablets in order to boost my immune defences.   The end of the week came and we discovered that in Malaysia Jess had been battling something similar.   Two painful flights later and she was bedridden for a week, wi...

Jenny's Blog

September, 21 2012 We have been in Phnom Penh for almost two weeks, visiting Jess and Luke at the Bible Education Centre. Phnom Penh is a very vibrant city, busy from early in the morning to late at night. It is never quiet with sounds varying from voices, street vendors, motorbikes, tuk-tuks, dogs, cars and buses. Along the streets are an amazing array of shops and services. Side by side are food sellers, motor repair businesses, material shops, clothing shops, mobile phone agents, plastic ware, all sorts of building materials, plumbing and electrical supplies, hairdressers and barbers, and much more. The streets are packed with vehicles of all sizes, pushbikes, scooters, motorbikes, tuktuks, cars, 4WD’s, buses and trucks. By far the most numerous are the ‘motos’ – scooters or small motorbikes. These are used to transport anywhere between one and four adults, and we have even seen five people including children on one ‘moto.'s Tiny babies are brought up travellin...

Three weeks too short in Cambodia

The culture of our Cambodian mission is such a unique, vibrant and rewarding place to experience. How great is our God, the one true God.  When we put our faith and trust in Him the fruits of our life journeys will be blessed. The Cambodia mission is a brainchild of initiative churned with God’s love, dedicated servants and the exuberance of the Khmer   youth creating an atmosphere where faith does thrive. I was fortunate enough to be on my 2 nd visit to Phnom Penh, the last being one and a half years ago for two weeks on my university holidays joining in on my parents' fieldworker trip. At this time there was an abundance of fieldworkers present at the BEC and I was content to sit back, observe and learn from the more experienced people around me to add to past mission experiences.  Not only to learn which style of teaching can be beneficial to a younger crowd but also learn how the organization, resources and management can be best juggled to make the most of the...
