We (K, Ezekiel and myself) arrived back in
the Penh just over a fortnight ago, ready for a 4-month stay. Luke and Jess, as well as a contingent
of Khmer left for the Malaysian Bible School just 12 hours after we arrived so
we spent the first week reacquainting ourselves with the BEC and assessing the
changes in the dorms and the city itself.
We were excited to have Esther and Deb visit for a few days and for a
while it was just like old times, visiting favourite haunts, chatting with
Khmer friends and swinging on hammocks overlooking the Mekong while chowing
down frogs and fish.
Unfortunately I succumbed to some form of
throat infection half a week after we arrived, and spent a few days downing
garlic and Echinacea tablets in order to boost my immune defences. The end of the week came and we
discovered that in Malaysia Jess had been battling something similar. Two painful flights later and she was
bedridden for a week, with burst blood vessels behind the ear drum. Not to be outdone, Luke has subsequently
sickened, however a homemade concoction of hot water, honey, lemon and plenty
of chilli seems to have helped the sore throat with the general feeling of
malaise taking longer to throw.
Poor Reasmey was next, but Luke was to the rescue, forcing his chilli-ridden
drink down poor Maisy’s throat – she admitted her sore throat was gone but is
still experiencing fevers. Poor
Bong Kun arrived this morning feeling poorly, but once again Luke has sprung to
the fore with a peppery drink strong enough to raise the dead. Let’s hope it works its magic and no
one else gets sick (I think the threat of Luke’s concoction will be enough to
keep everyone well for a while now).

The Malaysian Bible School was a great
experience for our Khmer brethren, and they have come back with plenty of
suggestions for our own Bible School that is running at the end of the
year. We were also pleased to have
some Aussie visitors briefly pass through Cambodia this week, having been in
Malaysia and deciding to visit after chatting to the Khmer at the Bible
School. It was great for them to
see the way the BEC and mission work is run here, and they visited the dorms
and helped run a couple of classes there.
Hopefully we’ll see them back some time in the future for a more
extensive stay.
The past couple of weeks have passed all
too swiftly, as I’m sure the next few months will also. It is so exciting to be back in our
second home and working with our Khmer ecclesia once again. We pray that our God will continue to
be with all those that call upon His name and seek to do His will, growing and
strengthening His flock.
