We are so excited to share our news of more baptisms in Phnom Penh in the near future! On the 13th July we have four of the young men from Bethezer dorm who will be baptised. Vitou, Veasna, Kosal (K) and Kosal will all join the family of God on this special day. Our other wonderful ne ws is that we have presented the first graduation certificate in Cambodia to Kunthea for completing the Learn to Read the Bible Effectively Course. He can be seen in the photo receiving his certificate from Steve and Mitzi. Kunthea has shown amazing commitment and enthusiasm to complete this course and is now concentrating on developing his knowledge of the Bible and the first principles of belief. Two of the students from LCDI who were regularly studying the Bible with us at BEC, Vannak and Sokun, have since gone to the provinces to begin their teaching role. We are so happy to have Mitzi and Max with us and of course we have to publish the customary "photo in a tuk tuk" image! What a wonderful support they were to us when we had a seminar about Satan, the devil and demons on Wednesday. As it was a public holiday here (AGAIN!!! I hear you say) we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do some in depth study on this subject, especially for some of the boys from the dorm. We had three studies, two before lunch and one after. We all walked around to Asian Spice restaurant for a delicious lunch and it was really a fantastic day of sharing Go d's word with so many eager minds. We know how you are all anxiously awaiting the photos of our wonderful day today. We felt you all with us as we celebrated the baptisms of Nirann and Sithy. God blessed us with a beautiful day and the boat trip was perfect. Thank you to ACBM for the boat hire…$30 for two hours!! At the junction of the Mekong River, Tonle Sap and Basaac River we witnessed two of God’s children joining the living waters. As Nirann and Sithy came out of the waters of baptism we all joined to sing, “This is the day that the Lord has made…” with Chea playing guitar. We had refreshments on the boat and followed this with a feast of pizza (Nirann’s favourite). The worship meeting was inspiring as we welcomed our new brother and sister in Christ. As many of you have heard, we are not just having one baptism this Sunday but two! Sithy is going to be baptised also and so we will have the first baptised, married Cambodian couple! They were going to be baptised in the river but the available sites were not very inviting. We have decided to hire a boat for 2 hours on Sunday morning and travel to a nearby island where the water is a bit cleaner. We are anticipating about 20-25 people who will join us. Following the baptisms we will return to BEC for lunch, and then hold our worship service at the usual time of 1.30 in the afternoon to welcome our new brother and sister. We know that so many of you will wish you could be here for this wonderful occasion. Rest assured that you will all be in our thoughts an d with us in spirit during this fantastic time. What a contrast of technology versus the most basic of utensils… Loy and I are sitting in the glow of candle-light typing on the computers! Yes, yet another blackout, but this time at 7.30 pm. Our power failures are usually in the daytime when demand is at a premium, but this evening we are left in the dark. We seem to experience the lack of power less frequently - but for longer periods of time. Yesterday we were without power for five hours from 12 midday until the evening. Loy’s full-time study at university is drawing to a close and consequently she has started joining us for our early morning studies at the dorm…the “dorm service”. This morning we began to look at Genesis. We read Genesis chapter 4 and talked about the different offerings of Cain and Abel. We discussed how God wants us to not only understand His requirements, but to also have the right attitude. This followed on beautifully from our study of 1 Corinthians 13 last week… “I gain nothing if I do not have love”....
