Changing lives - Cambodia

Changing lives Cambodia You want to change the world, big things, grand adventures, etc Just a little bit of respect goes a long way Im up in Seam Reap (6hrs north west of Phnom Penh, where the famous temples are) with Dave, where doing the whole temple thing, riding elephants, chatting to the locals. We find out that up north the water situation aint that great, they only have one rice harvest a year, where down south its wet all the time. So Seam Reap, famous for the Angkor temple complex, and thousands of others, many many tourist come in, just fly in then out. Theres a western street called “pub street”, which me and dave named “freakout street” (as it was clean and ritzy and was all westerners eating western food in an asian country – and it really freaked us out) So back to these westerner dudes, they come here speak there own language, treat the khmer (cambodian people) like they are second class (cos they are poorer and don’t have the best education) and disrespect their cultur...

Cambodge....land of hecticness!!!

G'day everyone I don't even know where to begin. these past few weeks having been buzzing with activity, non stop. I am meant to be leaving Cambodia tomorrow, but I think I'll leave things in chronological order So I'll get back to that later. me and Ben spent a week in Vietnam, we had to get our visas renewed so we checked out a bit of the country anyway. many many stories about Nam....but I guess we'll leave them and focus on Cambodge as this place never stops. I guess I'll start with the bad news. Gab left for Australia today...so once again there were tears flowing from the girl dormers. I think they will miss her a lot. Michael, Miriam, Sarah Ann, Toby and Tabitha all had to leave on Saturday. many of the dormers came around to say Chum Reap Leah. there were tears on this occassian as well. I think they will all miss Cambodia heaps. they have all done so much for this place, and are worthy of all credit, especially Michael. He never stops. he has done a lot...
Hey all the King here again. giving you the slow speed download from Cambodge. and what an eventful week its been here once again. so much to tell, good and bad. I guess I'll start with the bad news again. My older sister (and fiancé 3 years running) has departed from our presence here in Cambodia and gone back to the sunburnt country. It was awsome having Sammy here with us, she built relationships and bridges that couldn't have been done without her. she was like the iron that sort of ironed out the bad crinkles that no one really likes to see. we'll miss the demon and we ask that God be with her and bless her. So Sammy from Cambodge, Bray Botene Po and Akune Chedran. chum reap Leah yay. Josh and Ben came and slept at the boys dorm last night and Sarah N, Gabs and Loy went and stayed at the girls dorms. was cool as having the boys over. I really enjoyed the experience, as I think they did. me and Josh took the tuk tuk express all the way there and all the way home this mo...

Sanity is restored (if only briefly)

Greetings all, I thought I'd quickly jot down a small blog for all those who are suffering an overdose of broad Australian accents, youthful exuberance and bad spelling. At least, I'm hoping that my spelling will be better :). Time is rapidly running out for those who must needs return for the beginning of a new university semester and sadly, it is only now that some sense of normalcy is returning to the schedule at the BEC. As Jonno explained so eloquently, there has been some movement towards reviewing the old contact list with a view to revitalising its contents. This has yielded some results, although time will tell whether the responses on the phone are a real indicator of interest. We did however receive a visit from a very old contact, LeungSeng, which should give James Rass some nostalgia. The great admin and maintenance extravaganza I ran this week was a limited success. I'm counting a limited success as beter than a failure, so it's fair to say that some ...
