Warning to all passengers departing Cambodia!

Caution! Beware of Western dishwash detergents. Dishwash liquids purchased in Western supermarkets are deliberately and excessively concentrated and their use may result in serious distress, injury, or death. Anyone arriving from Cambodia and then using Western detergents may experience a sudden and distressing output of bubbles from their kitchen sink. When Western detergents are added to water and gently agitated, they produce bubbles the like of which are not to be seen in Cambodia. Extra caution is urged for those returning to the use of familiar Western brands of detergent after having used Cambodian detergents for extended periods. Special care should be taken to limit the quantity of detergent added to dishwater. The use of one bottle of detergent per sinkful of water will be unnecessary and can be dangerous. Limit input of dishwash liquid to no more than a few squirts per sinkful to avoid excessive production of bubbles. Detergent claims another hapless victim Those r...

Sunday School

The Phnom Penh ecclesial Sunday School is continuing to establish itself with about 30 children attending regularly. The brothers and sisters have taken over the Sunday School completely which is so wonderful to see. Lessons from the Bible are translated into Khmer by ecclesial members and the children are provided with a variety of activities. They have something to eat when they arrive and play some games. Then they are divided into three classes based on age. The two younger classes enjoy Bible lessons which are taught by brothers and sisters. They also incorporate a strong emphasis on the learning of English, playing games where the children have to listen to instructions and also learning the alphabet. We are so blessed with many of our brother s and sisters who have increasingly good English and are willing to give their Su nday mornings to this wonderful aspect of the ecclesia. The older group is smaller but the students have an increasing knowledge and understanding ...

Back in town

David and I left Australia for Cambodia nearly three weeks ago, with a few days' stopover in Singapore with my cousin Phil, his wife Kate and their two girls. Tropical temperatures and the swimming pool in the compound made a welcome change from the chills of Tasmania. It has been nine months since we were last here. Having arrived back in Cambodia two weeks ago, we feel comfortable here and quite at home. Even the Khmer lingo is starting to sound familiar again. It is so nice to be back and we are enjoying catching up with the Phnom Penh Ecclesia and getting to know the new dormers that have arrived and new students that have asked for classes. There is a familiarity about Phnom Penh... a lot of things are still the same, but there are more cars, more people and more new buildings have been built. And some things have changed and been pulled down which is quite sad. But Phnom Penh is forever growing. A few days after we arrived the Phnom Penh Ecclesia had their s...

Ecclesial Study Weekend

We have been so blessed this weekend with a feast of God's word from our brother Peter, who has journeyed from Hong Kong to edify and encourage the brothers and sisters here. The topic for the weekend has been Leadership for a Mature Ecclesia with a series of studies and workshops which have been well received by everyone. The workshops were a wonderful opportunity for brothers and sisters to get together and discuss the needs of their ecclesia regarding leadership and to develop action plans which can be supported by the whole ecclesia in the near future. Peter led us through wonderful examples from the Bible of the qualities needed for elders and, indeed, all members of the body of Christ. The weekend's success can no doubt be attributed to the hard work of brothers and sisters to plan and organise such a fulfilling spiritual experience for everyone. God willing, there will be many more such weekends in the future. We were abundantly blessed from our Father with the bapt...
