Caution! Beware of Western dishwash detergents.
Dishwash liquids purchased in Western supermarkets are deliberately and excessively concentrated and their use may result in serious distress, injury, or death.
Anyone arriving from Cambodia and then using Western detergents may experience a sudden and distressing output of bubbles from their kitchen sink. When Western detergents are added to water and gently agitated, they produce bubbles the like of which are not to be seen in Cambodia.
Extra caution is urged for those returning to the use of familiar Western brands of detergent after having used Cambodian detergents for extended periods. Special care should be taken to limit the quantity of detergent added to dishwater. The use of one bottle of detergent per sinkful of water will be unnecessary and can be dangerous. Limit input of dishwash liquid to no more than a few squirts per sinkful to avoid excessive production of bubbles.
Those recently arrived from Cambodia are at increased risk of adding excessive quantities of dishwash liquid to their dishwater, resulting in bubbles overflowing the kitchen sink, filling the kitchen, and flowing through into other rooms. Unanticipated side effects may include impired vision, with rainbow colours being visible on all surfaces; injuries from falls induced by increased slipperiness; and drowning and suffocation by bubbles.
