Cambodia BEC is proud to announce Tooth Safari!
Our inaugural tooth week has been a dental extravaganza beyond compare. Now drawing towards its completion, Tooth Safari has seen some of the BEC's most familiar (if now a little contorted) faces embark on some dramatic dental excursions.
The festivities all began last Thursday afternoon, with an opening act from a trio comprising Saruon, Sorphea, and Loy, heading out into the wilds of Phnom Penh to hunt down some exotic dental encounters. Their original quarry, a Korean mission offering free dental services, eluded them by a stealthy change of premises. Disappointed but not deterred, they moved on to other targets, eventually engaging with a dental clinic in the concrete jungle near Orussey Market. The crowds of circling prey severely delayed their opportunity to snatch an unsuspecting dentist, and Sorphea missed out entirely, but for Loy and Saruon, their moment finally arrived to capture their long-awaited game. The fight must have been intense, for they did not arrive home until evening, each bearing oral scars, and broken and missing teeth.
Friday's showcase was Anna, who had an appointment for a wisdom tooth extraction. With a little apprehension, she snuck in to the pre-assigned rendezvous point at dusk, to await her moment. But alas, a miscommunication meant that she had been booked for the wrong procedure, at an inopportune time, and given the wrong price and the wrong dentist. The helpful chap sorted us out, though, with a new adventure: different branch, different dentist, different time, the next day. Come Saturday morning, Anna approached her new target with growing trepidation. A long wait finally paid off, though, when the elusive dentist appeared. An intense 20-minute tussle ensued, the dentist and his two assistants, all armed with an astonishing array of weapons, both sharp and blunt, doing battle with the stubborn wisdom tooth. It ultimately relented, however, and was dragged from Anna's mouth, broken and unable to put up any further resistance. The fight having taken its toll, and the battleground left in ruins, Anna limped home pained and bleeding, and retired to bed to convalesce.
Meanwhile, Saruon, having acquired a taste for blood in her mouth, repeatedly went back for more. Her count is now up to three teeth missing and a further two that have undergone repairs. She has another two solo shows remaining, and expects to see another two teeth gone before Tooth Safari is over for this year.
Don't miss the crowning moment of this year's tooth week: Loy's finale, scheduled for 8 o'clock tomorrow.
