News and Changing times at the BEC2

Sunday, 6 July was a time of wonderful blessing for us all at the BEC in Sihanoukville.  Sunday School began as usual with about 40 children attending. Bro Sophorn and Sis Srey Pov took care of them together with the help of a couple of students. Afterwards they all tucked into a much anticipated takeaway meal.

Later in the day we held our Sunday Worship. It was our third week of holding it at the regular time of5:30pm and inviting students to join us to worship and witness the memory of our Lord.  Joining the ecclesia in Sihanoukville for the first time were bro Jonno and Sis Emma Yearsley from the Gosford ecclesia in Australia. With their company we were blessed to have 9 brothers and sisters, 8 students (Sokha, Chan & Chanty, Srey mom, Vimean, Ousphia, Hang & Trav) and 8 children.

 Bro Savy gave us a wonderful exhortation on the reunion of Jacob and Esau after Jacob’s years of exile in Laban’s family. He encouraged us to:
-       Not hold grudges against others because they get worse and worse
-       Love our brothers and sisters and be willing to serve them
-       Trust that God can help us overcome our fears and bless us if we are willing to forgive others.
When brother Savy finished, the students all spontaneously clapped to thank him!

In loving kindness Srey Pov, Sophorn and Srey mom had prepared a delicious friendship and fellowship meal for us to share together afterwards. It was good to see the students staying on to eat with us and get to know each other.

Today, Monday, has been a very sad day for us all – leaving Sihanoukville to travel to Phnom Penh after 5 months at BEC2.  However we leave with many, many happy memories of friends who have shown such kindness, friendship and love to us all.  We are very thankful that God has sent bro Jonno and sis Emma to continue to help and encourage the small ecclesia in Sihanoukville. We have already seen how well they are connecting with everyone and building friendship and love in the Lord Jesus.

We also want to specially thank bro Sophorn and sis Srey Pov for the way they have cared for us during our stay. It was a big job to look after a family of 8, yet they have been very patient and served us with great kindness and love. Our family of 8 was really a family of 10 and we will now miss their friendship so much.

 Finally, with grateful hearts we give thanks to our loving Father for the privilege of being part of His work here in Cambodia. Words cannot express the spiritual blessings we have received as a family. May our gracious God continue to care for all our Family in Christ here, and all those learning his Truth, to prepare them for the glorious Kingdom to come.  Come Lord Jesus!

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
