CHAN Thy Muoy's Baptism

Muoy is one of the BEC’s neighbors, who
got to know Saruon while Saruon’s job was
looking after Michael and Miriam’s
kids. Muoy got to know Saruon because Muoy likes foreign kids. One day Saruon invited
Muoy to visit the BEC and told her about the classes and activities that happen
there. She was interested in the idea of studying the Bible with foreigners
because she wanted to improve her English speaking and listening in order to let
her communicate with her fiancé more easily, and also because she wanted to
pass the interview to get a visa to live with him in US.

Bong Muoy married her fiancé, an
American man named Brian, in July 2010. After her wedding, she had an interview
at the US embassy, but was not granted a visa to live in the US. So her husband
had to go back to USA to work, and had to leave Muoy in Cambodia alone, waiting
for next opportunity for an interview to come up. It was so sad for her.

She began studying at the BEC shortly
afterwards. In the past one and a half years, Bong Muoy has been studying the
Bible with many different teachers, both foreigners and Khmer, and she has joined
many activities happening at the BEC and the Dorm, and has often joined in the weekly
worship services on Friday or Sunday. Muoy started to accept the gospel and began
following what is written in the Bible.

Two weeks ago, on the 3rd of
March, was the day of Muoy’s baptism. We held her baptism at the dormitory
where students stay before the seminar started. It was a happy day for her and
everyone to see as an example for dormer and outside students who usually come
to join the seminar at the dorm. Brethren, dormers and others were standing around
the baptism’s pool with smiling faces and waiting for her to get up from the
water to welcome their new sister in Christ Jesus into Phnom Penh Ecclesia. One
more important thing is that her husband Brian was there at the baptism
ceremony too. They were called by the US embassy to have another interview for
getting a visa. The interview happened on the Tuesday, two days after her baptism.
This time she passed the interview, and has now been granted a visa to live in the
US with Brian.

That is an amazing story. I'm so glad Muoy has been baptised! But how amazing that she didn't get the visa until after her Baptism. God must have been working in her life to make sure she learned the Truth. Thank you for sharing this!

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
