Well it’s
been a wee while since our last post, well and truly time to update you all on
the happenings in Sihanouvkille, that’s for sure. Classes got underway at the start of December
and we were pleased with the way numbers were increasing each week – word of
mouth seemed to be working best to get us more students. Some of the registered students didn’t turn
up and have been impossible to get hold of, so all in all we have been teaching
3 classes per day, utilising an English course that uses Bible passages. End of December we all headed up to Phnom
Penh to attend the Bible School.
Unfortunately this meant a two week break from teaching and since then
we seem to have lost our initial impetus.
Students are no longer turning up consistently and despite numerous
phone calls this doesn’t seem to be changing.
We’ll have to put our heads together and work out what we can do to
change things. We do realise there are a
variety of reasons for the lack of attendance – exams, special days at the
university and visits to the province are just some of the reasons students
haven’t been coming.
Saturday and
Sunday mornings sees us teaching a class of 5 boys aged around 12. We are basing these on the CSSA primary (5-8
yr) notes, using the stories as a base for teaching English. We include a hands on activity each lesson to
keep the interest up (a 2 hour lesson can be quite intense). We also have a small but very keen Sunday
School – and more pupils are showing interest in this which is great. Sis Theung has taken over the running of that
this year.
After Bible
School we had a mixed group of Khmer and foreigners come down to run a two day
seminar. We were pleased to see a few
extra people attend, besides our already registered students and we are
following up with these to see if they would like more dedicated lessons on the
Bible.
Our time
here will be drawing to a close soon and as yet we have no one to take over
from us – if you’re keen to come, or know someone that would be keen to come

happy to provide more info about the day to day happenings down here. Sihanoukville is a great place to live – easy
access to Western supermarkets, foods and clothes, a small ecclesia to
participate in and close to some beautiful beaches. It can be an exciting and life changing
experience living and working over here – but highly recommended. As always we pray that God will continue to
bless the work here in Cambodia, but especially down here in Sihanoukville.
