The family continues to grow

Our time here has just about finished, which we are very sad about. The last seven and a half months have just disappeared. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were packing our things and commencing our trip in Cambodia... now we are packing our things and getting ready to leave Cambodia and we feel like we will be leaving our hearts behind when we go.

But our trip here has ended on a happy note. David and I have been teaching three girls in preparation for baptism, and last Saturday before the Seminar we witnessed their baptisms. We all went over to the new dorm and we heard Kong, Sokhieng and Sokhean acknowledge their faith. It was a lovely time and we had many students arrive to see the ceremony. After the seminar we had a fabulous dinner, laid on by Sister Theavy and her hard-working crew, and spent time with all the visitors and dormers.

In Cambodia, we don't settle for offering the right hand of fellowship. Depending on who the chairman is, new members might be offered the right-hand-of-fellowship, the both-hands-of-fellowship, the fingertips-of-fellowship, the pat-on-the-head-of-fellowship or even the bear-hug-of-fellowship. For Sokhieng, Sokhean, and Kong the next day at the Worship Service, it was the fingertip-shake-of-fellowship as Brother Him (after explaining that he had permission from his wife to touch the girls fingers!) welcomed them to the ecclesia. This was also our last Sunday here, so we were rather sad about that. But it was lovely to share fellowship once more with our ever-growing Phnom Penh Ecclesia.

It is also lovely to know that there are going to be more baptisms in the not so distant future, with about another 5 or so of the dormers, as well as several outreach students currently studying for baptism. We only wish we could be here to witness these people become our brothers and sisters in Christ. We have met some awesome people over here, as well as encouraging them, we too have been encouraged by them and their constant enthusiasm for knowledge of the Bible and to become closer to God, even if it is at 6 in the morning!

Thanks to everyone who has helped us in our time over here.  Thank you to the people who have stopped at the BEC over the time we have been here and to all the dormers for your friendship and support. It is all very much appreciated. Now we will be the ones clamouring for more blogs from you guys left here in Cambodia.

It was so nice to meet you both and have the privilege of working with you for a couple of months. I hope we bump into each other again soon and that you have a safe trip home. It'll be hard to leave and I pray that God will guide you as you both continue to serve him elsewhere.

God has certainly been with you both during your time in Cambodia and the fruit of your time there has been a wonderful harvest indeed. We pray that our paths will cross some time, if not in this life then when our Lord returns. We remember so well the mixed emotions you must be feeling right now, so we pray that God will strengthen you and bless your trip home. With love in our Lord...Lynne and Steve

You guys are the best!! Such a good job over there. Ren really raves about how good both of you are. Steve and Lynne are right, it's so hard to leave, but there is one good thing about that, it means it's always easy to come back again. thanks so so much for looking after my Khmer family. hope to meet you both in person sometime. Preah brotene po!!!

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
