Last weekend the BEC held its ‘Outreach’ program. The ‘Outreach’ program happens once a month, when contacts living outside of Phnom Penh come to the BEC for a series of studies. This month we also had seven LCDI students (who have been attending Bible studies at LCDI) come and stay. The theme for the weekend was “Reasons to Believe the Bible.”
The program started on Friday evening with a two part study on the history of world empires in the Middle East. This was done by Dan with dinner served in between the two sessions. The following morning Dan did a review (as this topic is a lot to take in when you are hearing it for the first time!) as well as a talk based
on Daniel Chapter 2 and how we can see that a kingdom of God is coming to the earth. The following talk was done by Deb about bible inspiration and bible echoes. After lunch, Kerren did a session on the topic “Creation: Design or Chance?” which we followed up by showing the students a documentary on the diversity of life on Earth. This was really well received by the students as they had been given very limited teaching about the world outside of Cambodia. The sessions were concluded the following morning by Esther who looked at the proof of the resurrection in the bible as well as bible archaeology.
During the weekend we were blessed to see yet another baptism. Saruon, who lives here at the BEC, was baptised on Sunday afternoon. We held the baptism on the rooftop before the meeting and this time we all (with the obvious exception of Saruon) managed to stay dry.
This week also saw the departure of Dan M back to Adelaide (despite us telling him numerous times that he had to stay), as well as the first morning dorm class to be held in the new Girls dorm. The new dorm, although slightly smaller inside, has a good atmosphere with a courtyard and gardens (yes, there are trees!) For those who have been to Phnom Penh, it’s quite close in distance from the current Boys dorm, (which will be relocated to the new location in a couple of weeks.)
One final note for anyone who’s visited Cambodia recently and can recall the stray cat that roams the outskirts of the current BEC, she gave birth to some kittens last week and decided the best place to have them was right next to our washing machine. Braving a protective mother cat every time we needed the washing machine (which is pretty much in constant use) made the washing a little bit more exciting than usual, but thankfully she decided that this was not, in fact, the best place to keep them. Unfortunately for Dan and Kerren the next best place appeared to be directly outside their bedroom window, but for all else concerned the move was a very welcome one.
