This week has seen the Bethezer boys dormitory move to the new premises which is a few streets away from the old dorms. The girls dormitory moved a few weeks ago and it’s good to have all the students at one location again as the two locations made logistics for the early morning dorm class a little bit more interesting. The early morning dorm class, led by Dan and Kez, is currently looking at the book of James. Dan has recently purchased (as opposed to qualifying for..) his moto licence. Such is his love for his shiny new helmet, resembling a lady beetle, that he’s been known to eat, sleep and ride in it.
We have been blessed with a deluge of new students at the BEC. The new teaching schedule now includes classes on both levels of the rooftop of a Sunday morning. Sunday is always a bustle of activity with the BEC bursting at the seams with people and the class rooms being used for back to back lessons. The
roof was the only space left available and we’re thrilled to have so many people who want to learn about our Amazing God! The intensity with which some of the students look at you is astounding. You can tell that they really want to KNOW and sharing with them is really exciting!
It’s also been exciting to see the progress of the LCDI students. On Wednesday night Deb and I headed out to continue the study of the “God’s Plan with Man” booklet. Two of the dorm students kindly volunteered to be our moto dops for the night and in the face of extremely black and brooding storm clouds glaring malevolently overhead we raced our way out to the school. We feel that particularly since the outreach weekend the student’s interest and understanding has increased. Less blank stares and more nods of understanding (with perhaps glints of enthusiasm) have definitely been noted! LCDI continues to be in a precarious financial position and as such we aren’t sure how much more time we’ll have with these children. We really value our time with them and are trying to teach as much as we can in the time that we have.
Before I go I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tireless work and efforts of the unsung hero of the Phnom Penh BEC. Never complaining, hard working at all hours of the day and night, always performing tasks without fault and always completes tasks straight away within a set time frame - just to list a few admirable attributes. On the whole a really good example for us all. I am, of course, talking about the BEC washing machine. With ten adults and two children currently calling the BEC home, that thing cops a flogging like nothing else. An endless queue of tea towels, fouled nappies, sheets, towels and sweat encrusted clothes enter as a grotesque mess and depart fresh once more. For this I am most grateful.
