Ecclesia Bible Camp January 2016

The Cambodian brothers and sisters along with visitors from Thailand, Philippines, Australia, and the fieldworkers from Phnom Pehn gathered in Sihanoukville on the first day of the year for Bible Camp. Sihanoukville was a great location for the bible weekend as it is a coastal city, and the beach is easily accessible.

The theme for the weekend was Hezekiah - ‘The LORD has done great thing for us’ (Psa 126:3). Brethren John Elton and Richard Benson encouraged us throughout the weekend as we looked at the life of Hezekiah. There were many practical lessons from Hezekiah’s life – especially to trust in times personal crisis. We learnt that one of the challenges for us is to try and view our crisis the way God views it. When Hezekiah was in distress he took the problem and laid it before God – if we do this it is possible to see the problem from a new perspective. As with Hezekiah, wherever we are, we can have confidence that the God of Israel is in control. Remembering what God has done in the past, we can trust that God has the future in His hands.

The highlight of the weekend was Saturday when three new brothers Kvanthai, Sienghai and Lihor were welcomed to the family of God. We commenced the day with bible readings, followed by two studies. After lunch we all boarded the buses and went to the beautiful Otress beach. Brother Vitou gave remarks about the significance of baptism, this was followed by a beautiful confession of faith from each of the candidates. They explained why they wanted to be baptised before all the brothers and sisters and contacts gathered. Then they went into the water and were baptised. They came up out of the waters of baptism rejoicing and together we sung ‘This is the day that the LORD has made’! Our three new brethren were a great example for current students who are starting to think about taking the next step.

Following the baptisms we went back to the local beach and had a BBQ together. Being by the sea we enjoyed an abundance of seafood over the weekend. Brother Tim thoroughly enjoyed his squid head, especially the following day when we had to make the bus trip back to Phnom Penn. Dinner was followed by the compulsory soccer game with mixed teams, apart from Sister Jess nearly having her toe taken out there were no other injuries reported.
On Sunday we started the day with bible readings and breakfast and this was followed by the memorial meeting. Brother Stewart Riddle gave the exhortation and spoke about the lessons from Revelation 2 and being ‘overcomers’. Looking forward to pictures of the kingdom was the perfect way to finish off our time together. We thank God for an encouraging weekend with the brothers and sisters and pray that we will be united again soon at the return of our Lord!

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
