On the 26th
of last month we were privileged to witness the marriage celebration of Brother
Dy and Sister Davy. On Friday all classes
at the BEC were cancelled so that preparations could begin. Willing hands
worked together until the BEC was bright and shiny. On Friday evening the
bride-to-be was busy overseeing the assembly of drapes to transform the BEC. Everyone
took a break to eat rice and then the preparations continued – dusting fruit,
blowing up balloons, and preparing areas for the families of the bride and
groom to stay. There was a definite sense of anticipation in the air!
Early Saturday
morning family and friends started arriving at the BEC. The ceremony was set to
commence at two o’clock in the afternoon. There was only a flight of stairs for
the bride to descend to arrive at the ceremony so she was right on time.
Brother Dy and his groomsmen walked down the isle together and Sister Ruth
Elton played an improvised version of ‘The Wedding March’ to accompany their
entrance. Then Sister Davy and her bridesmaids followed down the isle, all
looking beautiful and radiant in white. Brother Raju conducted a beautiful
marriage ceremony and finally after many years of waiting Brother Dy and Sister
Davy were pronounced husband and wife. Kissing the bride was optional according
to Brother Raju, and Sister Davy looked keen so Brother Dy gave her a sweet
kiss on the cheek!
Following the
ceremony everyone went upstairs to the balcony to have refreshments. Sister
Jess, the official photographer gathered everyone for a group photo and then
people started departing to change into their wedding reception clothes. This
was a complete makeover for the women – a new hairstyle, glitzy gown and
matching makeup. Some of the men were confused and changed into jeans! One
change for the guests, five for the bridal party! Each time you looked around
the bride was wearing another beautiful traditional dress. The groomsmen were
also seen modelling several different coloured suits.
During the
evening the guests enjoyed a delicious banquet and traditional dancing around
the ‘fruit cake’. Dy and Davy finally made it upstairs after greeting all their
guests to cut the cake and throw the bouquet. They were encouraged by their
guests to go for a second kiss as they entered the reception which went down
with a cheer!
It was such a
blessing to be part of this happy day and we pray that God will bless Brother
Dy and Sister Davy and keep them in his care until our Saviours return.
