Our teaching time has come to an end and now we have to think about returning home! We have mixed feelings. We want to see our family and friends so much, but we will miss our dear brothers and sisters and our students here in Cambodia.
We have spent just over three months in fellowship with our Cambodian brothers and sisters and rejoicing in teaching others through the Word of God.
It is so exciting to wake each day knowing you have interested students to teach and share the gospel of joy and peace. This is a wonderful way to feel a real purpose in life. We really enjoy living how God wants us to live. Go into all the world and preach the Gospel! May others be ready to joy in the teaching here!
To visit the mission fields and meet so many who want to hear the word of God is a very positive and quite a life changing experience.
There are 124 classes run at the BEC 1 over 6 days. These classes provide teaching for approx. 50 students. The great thing here is that almost all students want to come 4 days a week. Some students can only come on the weekend. The classes start at 6am and finish at 7pm. Brother Steve and Sister Lynne are working at the dormitories each morning and evening. Brother Steve will report on this later. There are 4 field workers working at the BEC 1. Some of the classes are grouped and some are individual classes depending on the student's situation - either usually a worker or studying at a university or other post school training. The students we (Don and Una) have been teaching will be spread between Brother John and Sister Janet, Brother Steve and Sister Lynne.
One morning I was teaching and noticed a young man standing at the door looking lost. I asked him what he wanted and he said, “ I want to learn about God”. Such it the wonderful situation here. The fields are white and the laborers few.
At the moment there is a Pre-marriage Class running once a month on Sundays after the morning service. This is divided into male and female classes. This has been designed so students can feel free to ask questions.
While we have been here Brother Vitou (BEC 1 Manager) has organized a pre-marriage class for a young engaged couple. He wants this to continue and be part of the programs we offer at the BEC
Each week the field workers have Mondays free. This is a time to refresh ourselves and to do any business, we need to do. I had to have a filling in one of my teeth as it had dropped out. So Monday gives us time to fit in those kind of necessary jobs also.
On a monthly timetable there are two activities that take place. One is a social dinner for all the students to come together to get to know each other and the rest of the staff. This dinner is held at the BEC1 in Phnom Penh and the BEC 2 at Sihanoukville. This has been very well received in both venues.
The other activity is called “Outreach” to bring in the students who live out in the provinces into Phnom Penh to have a weekend of study. The last two studies have been “Getting to know God” and then “Getting to know Jesus Christ” the next monthly one will be “Getting to know your Bible”. These are the new Outreach group, hence the very basic teaching.
This could well be our last trip overseas as age and health are now a factor to be considered. We have just loved being here and pray God will continue to bless Cambodia to bring more from this struggling nation to God.
