Teaching at the Dorms

For some time the students at Bethezer dormitories have been encouraged to come for lessons at the BEC. Interest in lessons dropped and so it was decided to go back to making lessons available at the dorms now that more fieldworkers are available. There has been an immediate, positive response. Eighteen of the ‘boy dormers’ and seventeen of the ‘girl dormers’ have attended at least one lesson with many others attending consistently.

The lessons are held between 7:30 to 8:30am and 5:30 to 7pm. The ‘dorm service’ each morning at 6am has attracted 100% attendance on most days and has provided us with an opportunity to discuss good early morning habits, healthy lifestyles and making God the focus of our days. We will continue to build habits such as prayer and thanking God for everything that He gives us. The general climate of the dorms has become very positive and everyone at the BEC feels encouraged by this. The playfulness and abundance of laughter, that has been a highlight of the dorms in the past, adds to the joy of our visits. There has also been an increase in the number of dormers wanting additional lessons at the BEC.

We have found a fruit shop on the way to the dorms that gives us about 100 bananas for $5.  Remembering that Jesus provided natural comforts such as food and healing, we seek to nourish the students with an overflowing of love (God’s spirit) to complement the spiritual meals from the Bible.

The support and encouragement that we have received from the brothers and sisters and fellow fieldworkers has warmed our hearts and revived our energy levels. We feel so much closer to our Father in heaven and to His son, our Lord Jesus Christ.  Our prayers feel so much more connected to the will of our Father reminding us how important it is to engage mind, heart and energy in our service.

Like so many before us, we rue the day that we will have to leave, with just two months left.  It is so easy, however, to worship the strength of your own hand so we ask everyone to pray for the continued nurturing of these young ones seeking God’s truth.  We also feel great joy in the fact that Vanny and Chantry have jumped on board the 5:30 am tuk tuk join us. They have begun team teaching with us, using the Basic English Series of lessons and the simplified version of God’s Plan with Man, from Preaching Toolkit 4. Meng Him has indicated a willingness to translate the Basic English Series of 50 lessons. We are hoping these will be available in the near future.

Steve and Lynne.

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
