From the Gold Coast to the Gulf of Thailand

Well here we are! From the Gold Coast and the Pacific to the South China Sea we start a new venture. Hesitations, misconceptions and disinclinations left behind as we encounter new challenges, people and places that shred our doubts and turn them into spiritual well being and wonder. Suddenly we have found energy and sparkle as we break new ground with familiar faces all around us. Brothers and sisters welcoming, encouraging and drawing out the light we pray will shine from our hearts and minds during our short, three month stay.

Carried in our thoughts are the faces of brethren who sent us on our way with  prayers and their love. A final phone call from a co-worker from previous field trips – spurring us on with his gentle loving words. Our hearts grow stronger and our minds swell with ideas and plans, memories and experiences, sufferings and awe-inspiring joy as we remember how big our Heavenly Father can be in our lives and closeness to Christ that we often lose in our busy lives at home.

On arrival at BEC2 in Sihanoukville we were met by the beaming smile of our sister Srey Pov who lives and works at the BEC.  Among her many duties, she continues to provide us with the most delicious meals.  We were blessed to bring sister Ratana down to Sihanoukville with us as a translator for a couple of weeks.  She has been a ray of sunshine and so helpful.  She and Srey Pov share a loving friendship, always laughing and working so well together.

On Saturday Srey Pov’s mum came to visit us and stayed for a couple of days.  She expressed a desire to learn about the Bible, so with the help of Ratana’s translation skills we studied about God’s amazing book, the Bible.  She will continue to study under the Outreach Program and has taken some translated lessons home with her, along with a Khmer Bible.

Vitou kindly came down last Sunday to install a new printer at BEC2 and was accompanied by brother Tut and Tona. It was a real team effort to install the wiring, which links the printer to the internet. Vitou, as project manager, certainly showed his eye for detail, skillfully directing the work, which resulted in a very professional finish.

Tut and Tona stayed on for a few days and have worked tirelessly, washing windows, organizing tools, cleaning and completing many maintenance tasks at BEC2.  It has been so wonderful to have their smiling faces, always willing to tackle any tasks and help Srey Pov.  The big job today was to tidy up the outside area of the BEC to make our frontage neat and welcoming, armed with scrubbing brooms, a hoe, pavers and lots of muscle power!

Thinking about following Jesus, we read and share thoughts about the mind of Christ and our need to pray, trust and be led together. Ecclesial team spirit starts to emerge as we become more familiar with each other and share the opportunities and challenges that fill our days. The members and everyone at BEC2 speak with one voice and warmly welcome us into their choir.  It’s up to us now to find the character and behaviour that will build upon the work of previous fieldworkers.

good to hear from you two, hope God blesses your work over there, especially in Sihounikville, awesome to hear about K's mum. Be great if we can help her to learn about the bible, we did a P2P outreach talk in her house a few years ago, and I think she has been keen to hear what we have to say ever since. K told me she used to go to church in Thailand. God's Blessing go with you....

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
