Official Opening of the new BEC

I guess everyone will be wondering what we have been up to over here in Phnom Penh as we haven’t been very punctual at writing these blogs... Apologies for that.

Well so much has happened here and we have all been very busy this last month. As you will know the BEC has changed premises. This all happened just before Khmer New Year. Then David and I went to Vietnam for a few days and Abi, Dan, Shane and Gary went to Sihanoukville, while Michael, Miriam and Loy manned the fort here over Khmer New Year.

After Khmer New Year we got back into things and all our classes started up again. We decided to have an opening day for the new BEC. This was to show all our contacts where the new BEC was and to see what other classes we could take for new people that came along. We also invited previous contacts that for some reason or other have stopped coming.

So Saturday the 24th April was the day planned for the opening. It started off as a normal Saturday morning, and then we started cooking. Miriam and I made cup cakes... which is quite a hard thing to do when you don’t have an oven. So we cooked them in the microwave, which just takes a lot more time and effort. We then iced (which matched the colour scheme beautifully) them and stenciled the letters with BEC on them in chocolate hail.
Soon we had people arriving. We had most of the dormers and a few other people that hadn’t been coming for a while - it was great to see them. So we spent the first part eating and then

we played some games which everyone loved and mostly participated in. The winners ended up with a t-shirt with a Bible verse printed on it. Everyone really enjoyed the time spent together and seeing the new BEC in action.

The following weeks have been full of comings and goings. We had visits from Chris and Maria Wright on their way back from India to New Zealand and then we had Justen and Debbie Ruben from Adelaide, Australia come to see us. They all helped where they could and took classes and met the ecclesia and dormers.

The goings... Michael, Miriam and family left to go to Australia for a month. Then later that week Dan Ryan and Abi Van Heerden left to return to Australia and then Shane Devries left the following day to Australia also. So our rather big team of fieldworkers just vanished!

Now, David and I, Gary, Vitou and Loy are left here manning the fort and taking the classes.

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
