I have to appoligise for the lack of blogs this month ... it's been on Josh's list of jobs to do for about 2 months now, I think this afternoon is looking promising.
things here have been very busy like usual, I just returned from LCDI with Don, Una, Josh, Sarah and Loy after a lunch at Asian Spice (somewhere I haven't been in ages). Josh has been doing a stack of electrical work at LCDI. the electrical situation isn't really the best here, me and Josh have been through the dorms before fixing a whole lot of dodgy power points and lights, like for example I isolated a power point that was installed under the shower head after one of the girl dormers ( a fair while ago, before it was the Bethezer Girl Dorm) got an electric shock after leaning on it accidently while having a shower. the thing that scares me the most is there is no earthing, and no body knows anything about electricity here. So Good work Josh with that.
This weekend is looking promising. We've talked to 4 of the LCDI students about baptism and they are keen. So this weekend we are having a whole lot of LCDI out reach students coming back to Phnom Penh to study. The LCDI program works so that before someone qualifies as a teacher they must first go bush, out to one of the provinces to teach for 3 months, so we bring them back once a month to do lessons with them. It's quite convenient that Brother Kunthea is also Teacher Potent head of LCDI and its 14 branches. He's done a really good job with everything.
Things at the dorms are going really well. I've been going through for baptism with MENG Channa, Him's little brother, Boren (who's been busy and not feeling so well, so thats sort of slowed down a little) and Sophorn one of the dormers who has been answering all my questions very well. Sophorn has all the leaflets that Steve and Lynne have created and is doing really well in remembering the information provided in them. He lacks a little in his knowledge to navigate the bible more than anything, so I've got him remembering verses for each doctrine for homework, same as Channa. Channa, like Boren has got quite a good general knowledge. He used to be a church leader at New Life Church. Boren has got an excellent knowledge, and can just about show me a verse for every doctrine he believes. we just finished working through demons. Boren also often translates for me when I'm teaching the unbaptised class. He's got a good knowledge of the bible and is really easy to teach because of his good english. I'm looking forward to welcoming him in as my brother, whenever that may be.
here at the BEC everyone has been kept fairly busy, organising things, and trying to keep on top of the teaching as well. They are putting in a really good effort. I've got one student who comes here everyday, he's great, I went through the difficult subject of the atonement with him, and he understood it all very well. We've just finished the promises to Abraham and are in the middle of the promises to David, but the hunger for God's word over here is so AWSOME to work with. sometimes you feel very tired, like you just want to curl up and sleep for the next few days (especially since K took our mattress to the roof so we've been sleeping on the concrete floor for the past 3 weeks) but when you think about how much everyone is keen to learn, the kind of good students you can get here, its worth being tired for.
I haven't taken any photo's yet, but recently, myself and Father K modified Loy's previous baby. I've followed through with the plan of Faith and Hope on each side and BEC near the front. Baby looks great, I'll put up some photo's before I leave. K's also making up a photo board of the dorm, and all the activities in the last 6 months, because we've been pretty slack since Steve and Lynne left, and haven't put anything new up in the boys dorm.
we had an ecclesial outing last Thursday due to Thursday being a public holiday. where all those available from the ecclesia went to a hammoch place outside of Phnom Penh, somewhere relaxing where we just hung out in hammochs and sang hymns, and ate plenty of fruit. Me and Josh also ate snake while we were there. wasn't that delicious really aye. very chewy. Vanny bought dog back to the dorms the other night, and got me to eat some of that as well. which tastes a bit different. but my list of weird of wacky things is certainly extended since being here. People in the market offered me fried cockroaches the other day, because I was attempting to speak Khmer to them, and they were trying to give me some free. maybe if we had a camera, but otherwise, they didn't really look that appetising.
But, alas, all good things must come to an end, and my stay in Cambodia is coming to an end in less than an month, I'm trying not to count the days, but, the 21st of July, the day of my depature is looming. As is Josh and Sarahs. and Don and Una's. Josh and Sarah are leaving 3 days after me, and Don and Una just a week. lucky Steve and Lynne Armes will be back by then to hold the fort for us. I'm looking forward to going home in some ways, I'm really looking forward to seeing my family and freinds again. eating nachos, seeing all my little nephews who are growing up, seeing the ecclessia. But its going to be like ripping off my arm taking that step into the plane to fly away.
We're having a study weekend when Steve and Lynne arrive, the Harrington family will also be joining us, skip over here for a couple of weeks while they are doing preaching work in Thailand. Steve is doing his talks on Love, while Don is doing his talks on Truth. I'm really looking forward to it. we'll also be doing some discussion groups and workshops as well. which will be good.
well I think I've spent enough time writing a blog, and supposedly, Josh is doing one, as its been on his list of jobs to do for about 2 months now.
Please keep Cambodia in your thoughts and prayers. God has blessed us with a bountiful harvest (harvesting is a lot of work and very important work). I think the BEC is really flourishing here. i think we've got some amazing oppotunities here as well, Christ is just around the corner, so we've got to try and help those last few people into the kingdom that we can.
