See? I've learnt some Khmer!! :) I'm jealous of Jonno living at the Bethezer Dormitories, because he's picked up so much of the language! It's raining!! Most afternoons have been ending with a storm lately- lucky I love storms so much!! It has been a bit cooler today than usual- only about 31 degrees. The storms have been making it difficult for students to attend lessons- on Saturday, two of my students waited for an hour after their lesson at the BEC until the storm stopped, then they went home on their motorbike- but the roads were all flooded, so they had to walk and push the motorbike through the water for an hour and half to get home!!!! We've bought some cheap raincoats off the side of the road for when we travel to lessons at the dormitories on Jehu (the new BEC motorbike).
The brothers and sisters here are doing very well! Everyone has returned safely from travelling during Khmer New Year, and we are very happy to see our family members again. I'm not looking forward to missing them all so much when we return home in 3 months!! :(...
Every Tuesday night, the fieldworkers go to the LCDI school, and show a movie. Last night, we watched Bee Movie- they loved it so much- at the end they all cheered with the movie! :). We also got the priviledge of hearing Lucky- the famous LCDI singer!! Apparently, one night a couple of months ago, the movie wasn't working for some reason, so he just sang all evening for entertainment, and the students kept paying him to keep singing! One of the other students knew that i wanted to hear him sing, so they organised for him to sing a song after the movie finished. So i got to hear him sing last night- he's an incredible singer- and a natural perfomer. If you ever go to LCDI, you have to get him to sing for you too! Some of the most advanced students at LCDI (some of the bikers, including Saruon and Channy) are leaving to go to the provinces on Friday!! We're going to miss them so much. They go to the provinces to teach at the provincial LCDI schools- this gives them experience in teaching and improves their confidence. They will go to the provinces for around 3 months (I think! ).
Everybody is missing the Bremners, and we pray that God takes care of them as they travel home to Australia.
What else...? Phnom Penh now has garbage bins!! :-o!!! (for those of you who haven'tbeen here yet, rubbish is just thrown in the street, and the garbage collectors come at night and pick it all up- obviously there are some pretty big and stinky piles of rubbish around!!) I'm so excited that the government is finally providing some stuff like that- hopefully it will become a much cleaner and healthier city to live in soon.
Mum has been busy - she teaches every morning 6-7, and teaches every afternoon at the girls dorm, and teaches 2-4 two afternoons a week too. She's been keeping very busy- getting herself organised, and taking advantage of the cheap prices for things for the Bethezer School in Vanuatu here.
I've been writing an exam for students to do once they've completed the course 'Learning About Your Bible'. It's almost finished, and the other BECers have edited it for me. Hopefully this will give us an idea of what different students are absorbing from our teaching, and understand what they are learning from that course. Apart from that, I've been busy preparing for my lessons.
Josh is very busy between teaching for 5 or 6 hours every day, and keeping upto date with his other duties, organising the financial side of things here at the BEC, and preparing talks and lessons. At the moment he is teaching a student named Sokhorn downstairs.
The rain has stopped. I should go prepare my lesson for teaching at LCDI tomorrow morning.
