Sunday School in Cambodia

On Wednesday we decided to have a Sunday School training day and the first time we learnt how to make a lesson plan. After we made the lesson plan then we found the material to make some teaching aides for the children. We drew pictures from the Bible storybook. I had an idea to rotate the teachers among 4 groups of children. This means that each teacher will teach the same lesson over 4 weeks. We will all share the resources we have made. We have 45-50 children in Phnom Penh now, which is really exciting. We had teachers Ratana, Sokhorn, Veasna, Davy and Tut to learn about teaching and also some of the dormers came to help with the preparation. We enjoyed lunch together at BEC and then at the end of the day we all went out for a snack together to have some fun after all our hard work. Vitou decided to start a Sunday school in Kampong Speu, which started 3 weeks ago. At first there were about 20 children. The second week around 70 and last week we had over 100 children. Br...

the wonderful time in Cambodia

Dan, Alyce, Charlie, Cruz and I arrived in Phnom Penh on a Thursday morning, greeted by a smiling group of our Cambodian brothers and sisters and friends :) we all jumped in a van and headed straight to Sihanoukville. The green countryside of Cambodia was beautiful, and we visited brother K's family along the way. We arrived at BEC2, greeted by Steve & Lynne. Charlie and Cruz were very excited to see their grandparents! We thoroughly enjoyed our week at BEC2: there were friendly students, busy Phnom Penh visitors, our beautiful couple: brother Savvy & sister Theung, and fun beaches. Potty, brother Vong & Ti also joined us for a few days, before we all travelled back to Phnom Penh. I had not been to the new BEC there, so it was very exciting for me. It was so lovely to meet all the kind BEC staff and fieldworkers Jackie, Zac, Andy & Ivin, and Kim. We were all overwhelmed (as we are with every trip to Cambodia) by the love, happiness, hospitality, generosity ...

Greetings from the land of Angkor!

Every Saturday night after the seminar the brothers get together for our weekly bonding session in the form of football. The footwork shown by everyone on the field is incredible. Thus each week proves an exhilarating display of high pace action, an epic means of keeping fit and also an ever-excellent excuse to keep healthy throughout the week so you can perform on game day! After chowing down our delicious meal prepared for us by the caring dormers all of the Bon-Bros pile up three per moto as to scoot down to the field and get stuck in. I have yet to hear of a stomach upset complaint mid game even though we tend to start playing only 10 minutes after eating! The teams are the Dormers verse the Older brothers; this tends to make the game a brains verses brawn scenario. Examples of this are the perfect passing triangle composed of Sokea, Punleu and Puthsa for the Dormers and the fearsome ‘strong one’ kicks of old boy - Vanny for which all of the Dormers flail in panic. Also on the...

Family, Fun and Fellowship at BEC2

The disappointment of having to stop lessons during the Pchum Ben Day holidays quickly disappeared when the mini bus from Phnom Penh arrived at BEC2 with family from Australia and a group of Cambodians on board that Vanny had assembled at the last minute. The energy that Vanny is able to stir up was frenetic and didn’t cease for the four days that they were here.   Everyone had a role to play and contributed to a wonderful time of study, play, eating, site seeing, surfing, punctuated with the mandatory midday rest. Love abounded as everyone found a way to keep the BEC tidy, food flowing and enjoyment levels fairly distributed. Selflessness dominated as it usually does when the Cambodians are around. Our grandchildren were entertained and cared for while Dan, Alyce and Rachelle made themselves familiar with their new surrounds and answered a long line of questions from new and old brothers, sisters and friends. Our BEC2 sports gear got well used wit...
