In February 2018 I arrived in Cambodia for my third mission trip. Once again it is a feeling of being home and happy to be back with my Cambodian family. I made the journey to Siem Reap on my favourite bus Giant Ibis. It is a long trip but looking at the familiar landscape it is nice to be here and going off to Siem Reap to visit the small ecclesia there. Upon my arrival in Siem Reap Bro So Vesna was there to greet me and take me to the BEC with his tuk tuk. He is a very safe and reliable driver. So Vesna took me to the BEC and Sis Loy arrived home soon after. I am always thankful to God for the safe journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.
On Sunday morning SIs Loy and I headed off to the village were Bro So Vesna lives with his wife Sis Lin and two young children. The Sunday School is held at the home of So Vesna and Lin. I was going to teach Sunday School and Loy was my translator. The Sunday School students are eager to learn and have many questions for a foreign Sunday School teacher. It is interesting to teach the children and have the chickens and geese running about. How approproate as this particular week the lesson was about Noah's ark.
The following Saturday, Sis Bichhek and I took the bus to Kompong Thom to visit with sisters Vichhem, Sokkol and Kunthy for a sister's class. We went for a lovely lunch in a cafe that is on the water. It was very relaxing and peaceful being on the water. We enjoyed our lunch and after lunch I talked with the sisters about Rebekah and her faith in God and lessons we can learn from Rebekah. It was a great afternoon and the sisters were delighted that Bichhek and I were able to visit. Bichhek and I found a local bus and headed back to the BEC in Siem Reap.
Later in the week a few brothers and sisters came to the BEC. Once again the delicious communal meal, talking about God's hope for u and then there was time for an impromptu bible class.
I returned to SIem Reap at the beginning of March 2018 to support their outreach program. Bro Jonathan David from India accompanied me for the weekend. Between brothers and sisters and outreach students we managed to squeeze about 30 to 35 people into the BEC. The fellowship and communal meals is a very rewarding experience.
I stayed on for 2 more weeks helping with Sunday School and visiting the brothers and sisters in the Siem Reap Ecclesia. Even though there is a language barrier, So Vesna and Lin invited me for lunch at there home with So Vesna translating for Lin and I. Sis Sokhorn and her infant son joined us for the lunch as well. Once again it was interesting to be having my lunch with all the animals running about.
The Siem Reap ecclesia is always happy to have visitors. I feel blessed that God made it possible for me to be able to visit Siem Reap and be helpful to them, either by doing Sunday School, classes or just by being there to go around and visit them in their various homes.
Siem Reap is definitely worth the visit. Siem Reap itself is a interesting city. Best of all the brothers and sisters make you feel so welcome that most want to go back for a return visit. I am always awed by their love, generosity and how happy they are with visitors that take the time go to Siem Reap.
Siem Reap is a home away from home!
