Two weekends ago was the King’s Birthday long weekend
in Cambodia and we had the blessing of hosting a bible weekend at the BEC in
Phnom Penh. Bro Andy and Sis Denise Pitcher from the Enfield Ecclesia in
Adelaide came over to lead the studies and share the weekend with us. It was
such an uplifting weekend with bro and sis from all over Cambodia coming to
attend and join in the fun and fellowship.
Bro Andy’s studies were all based on the Psalms and the
links to 1 Samuel and what was going on in the time of David’s life when he
wrote specific Psalms. They were really interesting studies, and I particularly
enjoyed them as I have been doing 1 Samuel with one of my classes. We also did
a lot of singing straight from the Psalms (here’s a link to a video I uploaded
to facebook… As the Deer)
The weekend started with a big dinner of Friday night
followed by a welcome evening and the first study. Vitou,
was unfortunately out of action for the weekend after having his tonsils out the previous week
and ending up with a nasty infection (he's heaps better now!) - however, Richard jumped to and did an amazing job of keeping everyone
on track and on time. Not to mention the incredible Ratana, without whom the
weekend would not have happened! Saturday started bright and early with reading
and prayer followed by the first two studies and a very yummy lunch. The afternoon was free so some people decided to venture out to explore the National Museum and then came back to have an air-conditioned movie afternoon J After yet another
amazing meal together, we all headed out for a night of soccer – most to play,
some to spectate (guilty!!) It must have worn everyone out because Sunday was
not such a bright early start!! We still had a wonderful morning together
listening to Andy’s final studies and had a beautiful memorial meeting
together. The weekend ended with, you guessed it, a feast and a half of a
lunch, and then we all started to say our goodbyes and part ways.
Our weekend together was such a gift, and vital to the
spiritual health of everyone here. It gave all the bro and sis spread out all
over Cambodia an opportunity to meet together in one place, to catch up,
rekindle friendships, meet new people, and grow in fellowship and love for God.
It was also amazing for us – we loved meeting more people and really
appreciated the spiritual uplift it gave to us as well.
Thank you God for such a great weekend!!
Love Brent and Em xx
