Life Changing!

It's amazing that you can go to a new country only knowing the one person you're travelling with and then within days feel totally and completely at home in a building you've never been in before and with people you've never met before.  But that's the Cambodia BEC experience! It's life changing, it's hilariously fun and it brings a whole new meaning to 'brothers and sisters in Christ'.

I came to Cambodia with my big brother, Tim and I was scared, overwhelmed and had a terrible sleep the first night or two because I lay awake wondering how I was suppose to teach English and the Bible to people whose first language wasn't English.  I even cried to
myself quietly hoping my roomies couldn't hear me, but some advice I received before I left
Australia for Cambodia was  'pray always' (thanks to Ben Topham for that Facebook comment on my mum's photo of me and Tim ready to go) and so I prayed to God who blessed me with the opportunity to teach His word in a different country and He gave me comfort and strength.

One lesson in and all was well!  I loved every one of my students.  They were so keen to learn and know more and often it meant that I would increase in Bible knowledge too! Teaching was definitely a learning experience and seeing their appreciation of learning the Bible and how much they wanted to know more and more, made me appreciate more the precious Word that I grew up with and often took for granted.

The people you meet in Cambodia are amazing and not just the students, but the brothers and sister, the BEC workers, the Dormers, the Sunday school kids, the students at LCDI school,  the other fieldworkers and so on.  It's a beautiful family that I am so thankful to God to be apart of.  I don't think I have ever laughed as much as I did in Cambodia and that's saying a lot for me.  The people really make Cambodia awesome and it made leaving very hard, but the idea of going back as soon as God wills so exciting!

I highly recommend to take the time to go to Cambodia and experience it for yourself. There's a lot of students to teach and a need for teachers! It's not possible to regret it if you do it for God and to bring Him glory, but if you can't get over their yourself consider giving donations! The BEC is having a seriously great impact in Cambodia so your money, time or whatever you choose to give would not be wasted.

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
