Outreach Weekend

Abraham the man of Faith was our theme for the May Outreach Weekend. We looked at events in his life, the promises he received and how we can participate in those promises.

We had about 12 attendees for the full weekend which included 6 studies (plus the seminar at the dorms and the memorial meeting). Quite a full-on weekend! And yet the students were attentive and interested throughout!! I know I've been here for a few months now but I am still impressed by the enthusiam of our students and their thirst to learn.

Hmmm.... I appear to have writers block so I think it may be best for me to share the highlights in point form.

·         I was priveleged to teach the section on what the promises mean for us. I started by getting the students to brainstorm what they had learnt so far about what exactly was promised. They recalled every aspect!!! And then went on to work out a lot of the partial application without assistance.
·         The tropical storm that abruptly concluded the seminar (don't worry, we did get all the info. We were just answering questions). I love rain so much and it makes such a difference to the temperature!!! I can totally sympathise with anyone who wants to run about in the rain but was amazed that the boys were so excited about the prospect of playing soccer in the rain... sounds a little too much like 'mud' to me.
·         A conversation with one of the LCDI students. I showed him my hometown on the world map. Then he asked me to tell him about the 1st & 2nd World Wars. Then he asked me whether I thought North Korea would start World War III. Such a good opportunity to talk about Israel's return to the land (aided by WWI & WWII) and then Christ's return (aided by Armageddon).
·         The personal exhortations gained from looking at the life of Abraham again. He was so patient, so faithful, so trusting and so consistent. And our God is so loving, so giving, so forgiving, so trustworthy and worthy to be praised.

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
