Outreach strikes again

For a number of reasons beyond our control (mostly related to health) we weren't able to have the outreach programme in November, but we managed to pull it off in the first weekend of December. Better late than never!

We had 12 or so people come from various provinces, and had a full-on weekend of studies on the Kingdom of God. Friday night started with dinner and worship, Brother Rottana doing the exhortation about the salt of the earth. After worship we had planned to show a Bible-story-movie as the visitors had all been traveling and would be quite tired. David was just getting it all set up... and the power went out. So now it was all fun and games negotiating the BEC in the dark, with only a torch or two available! In due course the power came back on (and a cheer went up around the neighbourhood when it did), and everyone could now watch the movie as planned.
After breakfast on Saturday, Rasmay and Saroun taught the first session on the Kingdom of God in the past, when it existed, and why it met its end. Next up we had Sithy leading a session on what will happen when Christ returns, who will be raised and Judged, what will happen to those accepted and those rejected.
We then had lunch and a little bit of time to rest before the next study on 'Who will be in the Kingdom of God?' This was led by brother Vitou, and he looked at Armageddon and who will be the king and the government, and the conditions for the mortal population in the kingdom.
After another short break Brother Veasna taught on 'How long will the Kingdom last?' He covered what will change in the world, how long the kingdom will last, and what will happen after the thousand years.
Then every one came over to the dorm to join in with the Saturday night seminar. David has been doing a series on getting to know God and Jesus; this last week was on Jesus' character.
We had tea at the dorm and then an outing to the Night Market at Riverside, and all who went had fun but arrived back at BEC rather tired after the long day.
Sunday after breakfast, brother Seang Kosal did a talk on 'How can we belong to the kingdom of God?', which covered having faith in God, believing, repenting, following Jesus example, confessing our sins, and telling people about the good news of the Kingdom of God.
This was followed by a question and answer session, and then lunch, after which most of the visitors packed off home.

Our culture shock highlight for the weekend would have to have been two lads coming for their first time, and needing a demonstration of how a flush toilet works - having never before laid eyes on one.

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
