We (Dan and I) are now approaching the half way mark of our six month stay and, as always in Cambodia, time is flying. The last few weeks have seen the weather escalate from (what I deem to be) a pleasant Brisbane summer heat to a ridiculously sizzling ‘I’m going to come up with every excuse I can not to go outside,’ HOT. This has, however, also brought with it the first true storm for what will soon become this years Wet Season. The best view point for these extremely noisy, incredibly fast downpours is the BEC rooftop, and it was here that Dan, Jess and I gathered to watch the first of such storms. In a matter of minutes the water was flowing down the street below. Since stars are definitely not aplenty in the city of Phnom Penh, I love to watch these storms to remind myself of God’s greatness and amazing power. As the skies light up and the thunder rolls around you, you cannot but feel the power of the words, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Last weekend we held our monthly Outreach at the BEC. The theme this time was ‘Bible Characters.’ Starting with Abraham, we taught about the life of Isaac, Jacob and Joseph, finishing off the series with Moses. It was great to have our first Outreach talk given by Sis Theavy, who spoke to the group about the life of Abraham. It was really good to share these lessons, the stories most of us have known and loved for years, with a new audience. It is also wonderful to spend time with ecclesial members from afar like So Visnea, who was very excited to be able to show us some photographs of his very new (and yet to be named) baby girl.
On a final note, (although far away from Cambodia at this present moment), we would like to congratulate Jono and Ren on their marriage last weekend. We are all so happy for them and pray that God will bless them in their life together (and send them back our way soon!).
