Impressions of Cambodia...

It was a spur of the moment decision to go to Cambodia. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. How can I find the words to express what God has blessed me to experience?From the outset I must say to anyone who is looking for inspiration, a life changing experience you must go! The Cambodians are fantastic people! they are fun loving, kind, generous, hospitable, loving, humble, caring, hardworking with a thirst to learn like I have never experienced.

I had the privilege to taste, see and experience quite a lot over the 2 and a half weeks I was there. Meeting the young people at the dorms, going to the LCDI school, staying at the BEC, teaching a couple of lessons, visiting two provinces one of which I got the privilage to meet sister Sithy,her son and parents in their province and experience fantastic hospitality, going to fruit, veg, and meat markets. Tasting elephant apple (yuk), enjoying delicious food, and elephant trek just to name a few. Overall there were many good times!

Good friends Dan, Alice & Charlie Armes invited me along, and I am glad to have gone along for the ride. Also Steve and Lynne Armes who play an integral part in Cambodia showed a love for all the Cambodian brothers and sisters, that I personally found very encouraging. We all met at Kuala Lumper airport, and then flew to Phnom Penh together.

Some highlights for me were the warmth of the people even with the barrier of language there was no barrier in the expressed feeling of joy and genuine friendship with each other. I also really liked the Motos (scooters), one of the main forms of transport. You get a great feeling of freedom even with the pace of cars, tuk tuks, trucks and motos all driving in organised chaos.

Playing volleyball with the young men from the dorms was also fun, it was a great way to bond with them and have a good laugh. They are very good players, I think it is one of their favourite sports.

I have briefly shared a few experiences but I must also share with you the good works in spreading the good news. There are wonderful people that are working tirelessly to teach, encourage and support the many young people and contacts at the BEC.

The good will and energy put in by the Cambodian brothers and sisters and by visiting field workers such as Simon Peel, Warren and Jeanie Barton, and Steve and Lynne Armes working together is producing a wonderful group of mainly young brothers and sisters. From what I understand most parents live on farms in their provinces.

There are four main areas of works going on

Teaching basic bible knowledge at the dorms morning and night and also tuition one on one with any one who is keen.

Teaching at the LCDI school again based on the bible in English (the young people are so keen to learn it)

Preaching and teaching at the BEC one on one with a number of contacts which is usually greater than the number of teachers so the field workers work very hard. Also the BEC is where the thriving Cambodian ecclesia comes to meet remembering Jesus together twice a week. A wonderful time, and to hear the brothers and sisters sing to the Lord in Khmer is sooooo good.

Also love and support for those who are in isolation working on provinces, financial concerns and welfare is an ongoing work that cannot be overlooked as it is the outworking of the knowledge of Gods good character.

In summary Cambodia and its people with their great attitudes and kind hearts defiantly share their lives to the extent that you feel part of them. I fully recommend if you are looking for something new to help and be inspired, go to Cambodia.

My prayer is that our father in heaven will continue to bless the brothers and sisters in Cambodia and that his family will continue to grow there.

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news !
