A second first impression

**evening dorm dinner; Sithy, her baby & mother & Lynne; our new monk Joseph**

For all those hungry blog consumers out there, I thought I would prepare a bite sized morsel to assuage your appetites. Returning to Cambodia has been fantastic – in some ways slightly different to last time, but in many ways just the same. Having come from India last time, the smells, sounds and sights of Cambodia were less intrusive than on this trip, although that’s not to say they were unwelcome in any regard. What has remained the same is the warmth and hospitality of the Khmer.

Having been here just over a week, I have already enjoyed many of the activities involving fellowship, spirituality and friendship with the dormers and other interested friends. Rising for 6am dorm service is not as much of the chore I imagine it would be if I was asked to do the same back home. The dormers are always extremely welcoming – cheery greetings of ‘Joomripsua, soksabai’ and ‘srei s’art’ abound, day or night. Saturday night teaching is now followed by a shared meal – a fantastic opportunity to chat informally over a delicious feast. I also stayed the night in the girls dorm last Wednesday, playing 7-up, reading and discussing Proverbs 30 and then being subjected to the Khmer inquisition as I tried to drift off to sleep – another heart warming experience.

Then of course there is the teaching – it is so rewarding to preach to those with open hearts and ears. The outreach students were so enthusiastic in their learning this weekend, asking relevant and vital questions to aid their understanding of the Bible. The outcome of sowing on such fertile ground was seen as Brother K exhorted yesterday on faith and works – faith without works is dead. He finished with the story of blind Bartimaeus, who in his hurry and excitement threw off his cloak (the equivalent of his home and earthly possessions) to rush to Jesus and through his faith, be gifted with sight.

I am certainly praying that my remaining two weeks here are filled with as many spiritually uplifting experiences. May Cambodia and all those learning and teaching here remain in your prayers.
Sarah

God Proves the Power of Prayer Again and Again

Over the course of my five-month long Cambodia trip I had the opportunity to teach class es at the Bethezer girl dorm regularly . For th ese class es I have a translator so I just get to teach the good news ( none of this dilly-dallying about English teaching ). Our topic on this particular night was prayer. Philippians 4:6 reminded us that God is longing to hear from us just as a father lo ves to hear from his child or how we are just hanging out to get a message from someone we love. We looked at H is promises to answer ALL our prayers while we abide in Jesus Christ (John 15:7) and at Psalm 34:4 where God confidently affirms that when you find your happiness with God, H e will certainly give you more of what makes you happy (Him!). And you can pray for that happiness because God will give you anything that brings you closer to Him so never be afraid to ask! That is nothing but i ncredibly good news ! We raced through many more quotes and I had expected to strug...

Maybe I'm just a girl

Well, dear Readers, Things have been busy here with preparation for our seminar this weekend. Catering, printing, emailing and phoning have been occupying our hours. James is sitting opposite me on the table working on his talks for Friday. We have had quite a number of bookings for our seminar and the numbers have only been limited by the size of our premises. God willing, all will attend and we’ll have a good two days of talks and chatting. We’re planning, God willing, a boat cruise as our social activity and that should be a blast since we can have a 2 hour cruise for 50 people for only $20. Have managed to hook up skype credit and tested a mobile call to Prydie. The 5 second lag meant it was like having two random monologues in the same room. The prices was fairly reasonable, but even as 3 cents a minute the cost climbs. James spends much time out on the balcony. He gets good wireless reception. It's quite a amusing to peek through the window and see James out on the balcony wa...
