Cambodia is starting to feel like home!
Jonathan and I went away for a holiday in Thailand (Koh Samui) with his family for a week or so this month. It was really nice to be able to revive, rejuvenate, relax, etc, etc. and catch up with the family ☺. But I think one of the best parts of the holiday for me was coming back to Cambodia. When we hopped off the plane at Phnom Penh airport I was SO excited!!! It’s great to be back in a country where we know how things happen, what the people are like, what the food is like, how to speak a little of the language – a country where we can breathe and feel alive!

When we got back home we found out that everyone had gone to their provinces on holidays (national public holidays) so things were pretty quiet… but today, Tuesday, we’re getting back into things – 5 lessons so far today!
Do you know how energizing it is to teach someone about the Bible? Someone who really wants to know? I have a 34 year old guy who comes for lessons 1-2 times per week (at 8am!). It takes at least two sessions to get through one lesson because, even though his English is perfect, he has so many questions. For example, today, the notes mentioned “son of man” in passing so we had to go off on a tangent about the titles “son of man”, “son of God”, and Jesus “Christ”… and then look at the order of authority/power between God, Jesus, the angels and us…….. and that was only one of the tangents! The enthusiasm and thirst for understanding is just amazing!
Another of our students is a guy doing year 12 at school. At first I thought he was coming so we would help him get into an Australian university next year. He kept asking questions about life in Australia, how to get an Australian Visa and telling us how much he could help his country if he could get a proper education in Australia. But after finding out that we can’t really help he’s continued to come… and last time he came he’d done a lesson at home by himself, wanted to do two lessons in one sitting, and wanted to know what we will be studying when we finish the CBM course! … and this is a 17 year old boy!!
Unfortunately, we have more male contacts than female contacts… so we’re trying to work out how to get in contact with more females. If anyone has any insights please let us know.

Do you know? I’ve been looking out the window while typing this and wondering why I love this place so much. It’s not really beautiful – the buildings are very close together, and most are about 5 stories high. There’s rubbish in the streets. Most of the children are dressed in old, worn-out clothes. A walk down the street brings many different odours and fragrances to one’s nose… and yet I love this place! I think there are four things that make me love this place…
1. The streets are wide and lined with trees
2. The people are very friendly and welcoming
3. There are many amazing and amusing sights (as per last blog)
4. The people we interact with really want to learn about the Bible – what it teaches, what it means to us, how to understand it for themselves. I think this is the main reason why I love this place. The enthusiasm of people here has taught me how truly precious the Truth is!
